Dr. Merrill Schauers is active in independent practice as a clinical psychologist, having been involved with children's issues throughout his professional life. His lifetime as a husband and father extends to his interests in youth activities, mentoring kids, ranching and restoring vintage cars. He began preparing for his career as a psychologist following his honorable discharge as a Navy Hospital Corpsman. Dr. Schauers is a member in good standing of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Arizona Psychological Association (AzPA), a Diplomat of the American Board of Medical Psychotherapists (ABMP), and holds the Certificate of Professional Qualification in Psychology (CPQ). His professional and research publications have spanned over three decades and have considered theoretical and applied research in drug addict rehabilitation, education of inner city kids in the Hartford Teacher Corps Project, Predictors of Children's Academic Success, Parents As Resources in Drug Education, a discussion of Social Issues, Grade Consciousness Attitudes, and now Kid Kontrol. |

Dr. Schauers is licensed as a psychologist in Arizona, and has enjoyed his work in a variety of professional settings with parents and children in diverse cultures, situations of child protection, parent education, forensic psychology and teaching. He has shared his knowledge of child development within the criminal-justice systems of Florida and several Western States, from urban to very rural, pioneer circumstances, and within six Native American Tribes and Nations. Dr. Schauers has founded or co-founded a number of community organizations for strengthening the family, supporting at-risk kids, including three residential treatment programs, and for implementing improved health care to people in rural environments. Dr. Schauers’ purpose for his book Kid Kontrol, and for the Kid Kontrol Seminar program, has been to offer parents an alternative to the frequently tragic outcome of simply tolerating the defiant kid. |
